Commas: I Think I'm Going Insane

I'm constantly worried about where to stick the comma. I'm afraid that I'm abusing the poor thing. I'm constantly sticking her where she is not needed , and then I leave her out of places where she is needed. Commas are driving me insane.

You are so right, Rose. Comma's are much maligned. My personal weak spot is the apostrophe. I put it where it needn't go, and wedge it between letters that should sit close together.

You're certainly not alone in your frustration.

Commas are my weak point too. My husband always teases me when he proof-reads some of the short stories I write. I was always taught to put the comma where there would be a natural break if you were reading the piece out-loud, but then I learn that isn't always the case. Go figure.
