Shoo Fly Don’t Bother Me

Lastnight I received a comment on one of my blog entries that I have chosen not to publish. It looks like someone has found a new and annoying way to aggravate me. They are doing so by abusing the comment feature.

I have no intention of starting a flamewar with this individual, so I do hope that she keeps her opinion out of my blog. Frankly I’m tired of listening to her whining. I've been around long enough to know, you made your bed you lie in it.

Before leaving a comment, please note that I may or may not publish it.

I love the comment moderation feature that Google Blogger gives you. One click of a mouse and it’s it goodbye little pesky critter.

“What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”

This quote brings me to, “my thought of the day.” Why is it that some individuals will lie, manipulate, and deceive others for personal gain and they feel that they’ve done nothing wrong.

I’ll leave you readers thinking about that question.

Shoo, fly, don't bother me, Shoo, fly, don't bother me, Shoo, fly, don't bother me.

Never Let Go of Hope

Have you ever had that sinking feeling? Some say that it’s ever man for himself. Who cares about those that they leave behind in the wake of disaster? These past few weeks I have felt like a passenger on a cruise ship such as the Titanic. Everyone is in such a hurry to get off the sinking ship that their not helping anyone else. The only thing left for me to do is pray and hold on.

Today's Woman Writing Community Writer's Blog

Nicole, of ladypens.com has done a wonderful thing for her contributing writers. She is featuring LadyPens writers in the lady pens blog. I thought it was a fantastic idea, and have therefore created the “The Today’s Woman Writing Community Blog.” Thank you to Nicole for the idea. I will be updating this blog with resources and links, and daily news and information provided by the members of todays-woman.net, in addition to member spotlight. I’m really excited about this new blog, as it will give Today’s Woman bloggers the opportunity to contribute to what I hope will be a resourceful blog for writers.

Blog Your Way to Better Writing

While reading an article on blogspot.com, it occurred to me that Wayne Hurlbert was correct. Blogging does improve your writing skills. I started blogging about my life in July of 2005.

The more I blog, I found that I was beginning to put some thought into my blog posts. My friends have started commenting on my blog, which has given me incentive to keep blogging. I was even contacted by a couple fellow bloggers who requested to reprint some of articles in their blog.

Some of my simple short blog entries have developed into articles as I begin to expand on my thoughts. I find myself constantly checking my spelling and my grammar. I have visited many blogs and while some are used as personal diaries, the others are used as article directories.

Blogs offer many more features than a standard webpage does not. Such as blog ping, trackback, blog comments, faster indexing and repeat visitors.

A blog ping is when you write a new entry in your blog, you can set addresses to sites like Ping-O-Matic which tells them that you have just updated your blog.

Wikipedia.org defines trackback as - TrackBack is a system implemented by Movable Type and later adopted by many blogging tools, including TypePad, BoastMachine, WordPress, and Nucleus, that allows a blogger to see who has seen the original post and has written another entry concerning it. The system works by sending a 'ping' between the blogs, and therefore providing the alert.

I never thought that blogging would be so much fun. I have been administrating Todays-Woman.net for three years now and I don’t have a lot of time for writing. Therefore my blog has turned into my own personal journal, where I can practice my writing by posting a log of my daily life and blog about my thoughts and feelings.

I admit that when I first started blogging, I was uncomfortable about strangers reading my daily thoughts. But now even my most insane posts like “Wee Willie Warmers “receive feedback.

My problem with staying motivated and fulfilling my goals was my own failure. I had not taken time away from a daily life that I had come accustomed to. While I love administrating Todays-Woman.net, I realize that I need to take more time to explore myself as writer.

My writing has improved in leaps and bounds over the past year. I owe some of that credit to myself, some to my proofreader, and some to my members. But I owe the rest to blogging. By forcing myself to write everyday, I have become a better writer.

I have taken some time each day to just write.

I would like to challenge everyone to blog everyday this year. If you don’t already have a blog you can create one at Blogger.com.

For a highly recommended reading, I suggest that you surf on into Wayne Hurlbert’s blog and read his June 2005 article titled “Better writing through blogging.”

Blogging is certainly the wave of the future.

Today my children joined the ranks of blogging. Both of my teens have just created blogs here at blogspot and will be updating them under parent supervision. I think that it will be great for my son- who has considered journalism as a career. My son can use his blog to fine tune his journalism skills and my daughter can use her blog to practice writing and her communication skills.

Get Blogging - It's the cool thing to do.

Rose DesRochers's Blog: Thought for the day

It is said, "A picture is worth a thousand words." If that is so, then a screen capture of an entire web design stolen must be worth a million.

Living On The Edge

A place for everything and everything in its place.

My daughter’s obsession for facing the shelves is driving me nuts. At home she moves everything to the front edges of the dresser, shelf, or desk. Maybe her next job should be stocking shelves at Walmart. She has the technique for facing the shelves down pat.LOL

Rose DesRochers's Blog: A Case of Copycat Blogging

How do you know when another writer envious you?

When she has stooped so low, that the result is copycat blogging.

Such behavior as this is nothing new for this woman. She began submitting reprint articles to ezines around the same time as me and Instead of thinking up her own ideas- she wrote about the same topics that I did.

I’m not sure if I’m angry or flattered. I’m not going to link to the blog of the offending party. That would be giving her more attention than she deserves. While the Blogger did not copy the content of my blog, she copied my ideas.

At least I'm original. Think about how terrible it would be to live the copycat's life.

The Perfectionist Child

My son does very well in school but when he makes mistakes, he is very hard on himself. His teachers have tried to talk to him about it and so have my husband and I, but it doesn’t appear to make much difference. I was reading up about the characteristics of gifted children on Carol Bainbridge’s website http://www.giftsforlearning.com . Perfectionism appears to be one of the traits. Now, how do I help my son learn that it’s ok not to be perfect? Sigh!

Today I Feel Like a Glo Worm

I spent my afternoon at the’ Nuclear Medicine' Department of the hospital. I had my bone scan done. This consisted of a small amount of radioactive material being injected into a vein in my hand.

They normally do the arm but couldn't get a vein there. After the injection, I went home for an hour and a half and had to drink lots to flush the radioactive substance through my system.

I then returned and they did the actual bone scan. It took about two hours. I guess it takes up to 24 hours for the radionuclide to get out of my system.

Hmm, maybe I should walk into a dark room now and see if I glow. LOL

Anyway, now I'm just waiting for the results. Which, I’m anxious to get back.

Oh Those Spelling Errors

Please make it stop.

affect, effect
to, too
buy, by, bye

Oh those spelling errors woes. I am here to confess my sin. Oh the shame. I just typed complement, when I meant compliment.

Talk about Grrrrrrrrrr moments. Don't you hate those pesky little words that sound alike, but have different meanings and spellings.

compliment and complement.

compliment - an expression of praise or admiration
complement - something that completes or makes perfect

I hate homophones.

I due oh how I due, I mean I do hate homphones.LOL

I'm not sure how many times I've said, Please bare with us. I do believe that it's, please bear with us.

Many of my grammatical errors are the result of homophones. Like Sense vs since.

Sense - meaning feel
Since- refers to passage of time

I need to slap myself or is that I need too slap myself. Quick, I need a refresher lesson on the basics of homophones.

My next blog entry - Where do I stick that comma?

Health Care Woes

I went to the clinic this evening. The doctor believes that the other clinic never sent a referral to a rheumatologist. I should have had an x-ray and bone scan done on my ankle in June. However, none was done. I have to have a bunch of blood work done tomorrow and then an x-ray on my ankle. The doctor has already gone ahead and made the referral for the bone scan. So now, it is a matter of having the test done and waiting for the results. I have a busy week ahead of me.

Feeling Like a Newlywed - Recipe for a Happy Marriage.

Every woman needs romance in her life. Shawn and I have a wonderful marriage but we live a very frantic life. We have two children, two businesses that we run and by the end of the day we are exhausted. We realized long ago that we need to take time out of our busy day to day routine for each other.

Sometimes we go for a walk or out for a coffee or just relax at home after the kids are in bed.

Lately, I’ve been under a great deal of stress, so last night Shawn planned a romantic evening. He ordered in a nice Chinese dinner, we had a glass of wine and watched a couple of movies and I won’t share the rest of the details.

But it was romantic and an out of the blue surprise. It was a night of pure heaven and I woke up this morning feeling like a newlywed. Most women complain that their husbands takes them for granted. I never have that complaint, as Shawn always puts my feelings first.

In your relationship, it is so important that you make time for each other. It is part of the recipe for a happy marriage.

I love you Shawn.

The Skelton Key

The Skelton Key in my opinion was an excellent movie and one that I highly recommend. It did not have the predictable ending that most movies have. I wouldn’t be so quick to classify it a horror movie though. It was more an edge on your seat suspense. The ending is definitely shocking. Rent this movie--you will not be disappointed.

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)

My son has been invited to fill out an application for the enrichment program, which is a more challenging curriculum for Grade 7 and 8 students who are ready for enriched studies. If his application is selected he will be chosen to attend separate private school classes. This program is attended for students that have been identified as ‘Intellectually Gifted.’ After a March student interview, those who have been selected for the program will be contacted.

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is a recognized leader in the field of international education. This enrichment program will prepare him for the International Baccalaureate Programme which is offered to grade 11 and 12 students. The IB diploma gives holders access to the world’s leading universities. The IB diploma is recognized by more than 110 countries.

As a parent, I of course have some concerns with the program. Since this is a decision involving my son's future, I’ll have to give it a great deal of thought before deciding if we’ll be pursuing the IB program.

I'm certainly very, very proud of my son.

Jealousy - Has Raised its Evil Head

I hate jealousy. I feel ill each time that I see it rear its ugly head.

This rant about jealousy comes from an individual who would like nothing better than to see me fail. I have no idea why, but the situation is very real indeed.

This envious person will not work towards accomplishing success. In his own twisted little perspective he believes that he is already successful. He believes that others are envying him.

Jealous people can't stand seeing others doing better than them. Some individuals really do take it to the utmost extremes.

This individual would love for his websites to be as successful as mine but he does not have the skills or no how to make that happen.

His Jealousy is a mixture between envy and his desire to be where I am.

When from the deaths of envy comes hatred, the jealous person will stop at nothing to bring down a colleague.

It's been an extremely eye-opening experience for me to see just how ugly jealousy can become. I’ve seen first hand how jealousy has developed into hateful malicious acts, abusive behavior, and false rumors.

It is not a pretty picture at all. Now with the ability for jealous people to hide behind anonymity on the internet, it enables them to go to greater lengths no matter how damaging to destroy the reputation of a company. Cowards are what they are.

Jealous people certainly don’t impress me. So while I sit back and watch the jealous person spread false rumors and makes false allegations to get him through each meaningless sad day in his life, I continue to run my business as I always have.

The last thing that I wish to do is allow myself to be brought down to a level of hatred. I am proud of my success. I have gotten here by offering others my hand, not kicking them while they are down.

Sad Upsetting News

I got some bad news today. I have been waiting six months to see a rheumatologist. I thought it was an orthopedic surgeon that I needed to see. But the nurse informed me on the phone today that it was a rheumatologist. She had faxed my referral in July to a doctor in Kingston. Today she informs me that doctor can not see me as she is going on Maternity leave. To make matters worse, the referral is no longer any good and I have to go back to the clinic on Saturday to get another referral. She mentioned sending me to Ottawa, Toronto, or Peterborough. Anyway, it is going to be another six months on a waiting list. The chronic pain has become almost unbearable and now to find out that I have to wait another six months and travel such a long way just to see a doctor is very upsetting.

Ihatethis

Kevin is the editor-in-chief of http://www.ihatethis.org , which is the resource for those who want to publish their negative opinion on something or someone.

That gives me an idea, Na I'm not that mean.

So when I first heard of the website, I wondered how long it would be before my name was on there. Someone was sure to send in something that they hated about me.

Well I can now say that my name made the site. As I’m the author of the post,” I hate the “Birth” Movie.”

I have spent a lot of time on the ihatethis website. The site isn’t as bad as I first thought it would be. I actually found myself laughing at some of the submissions, shaking my head at others, and I was inspired to write an essay relating to the topic of school uniforms. So check out ihatethis and submit your rant.

Well, I'm Back.

A much needed vacation has prevented me from spending time on the Todays-Woman website. Therefore, I dedicated today to reading and commenting on my fellow member’s poetry. My first day back to work after vacation has been an enjoyable one. I have read and commented on 64 poems and been motivated to write two of my own. I have missed reading all the talent within the site and I can now say that I’m back to work.

Tomorrow will be dedicated to short stories and articles. I motivated, so look out for some serious reviewing.

Todays-Woman.net Company Spotlight

Todays-Woman.net first opened its doors to web surfers in 2002, at this time it was a woman’s network. Since then it has become a writing community for both men and women, connecting writers from around the world in one virtual space.

Today’s Woman is administrated by me, Shawn DesRochers and Steve Reichard. The community is made up of those looking to be published, hobby writers, published authors, and publishers themselves.

Todays-Woman.net has a full online forum with over 56 communities built inside of it. We have writing lessons, a full directory of links to literacy resources, famous poets, online book store, book reviews, and over 150 calls for submissions to help writers get published, plus many more features. Though the main focus of our community at one time was a poetry community, todays-woman.net is now the online community for creative writing, fiction writing, story writing, poetry writing, writing contests, freelance writing, song writing and all other genes of writing. We have really opened our doors and broaden our selves to more than just poetry.

We have weekly writing contest that spark member’s creativity and we have a variety of writing lessons submitted by experience writers to help the beginning writer fulfill their dreams of publication. I feel that Todays-Woman is a wonderful learning resource for writers.

Todays-Woman also does personal interviews. We have interviewed such big names as artists Phil Roberts and Jonathon Earl Browser, Country singer Andrew Dean and Children's author Robert Munsch.

Administrating Today’s Woman has been a wonderful experience for me. Not only have I made some wonderful friends, my online experience has brought me success.

Todays-Woman has become one of the most visited writing communities on the internet. Ranked 6/10 by Google and 198,925 in Alexa, we continue to be the primary resource for writers, receiving an average of 7,197 to 10,276 hits a day.

Shawn DesRochers extensive developing of Todays-Woman.net has been rewarded with rave media reviews.

Testimonials from the members themselves have been most positive. As of June 1st 2005 Today's Woman now offers members the choice between a free account and premium service.

I truly believe the best of Today’s-Woman.net, is yet to come. Don’t go anywhere as we have only just begun.
